New Year Resolutions visualized

New Year – New focus

New year, new focus, well at least some is new. I have discovered that going to the gym doesn’t happen no matter if it is a new year resolution or not, so there’s really no reason it should be. Instead I want to focus on health overall. Mental health, health though food and everyday physical movement. I also want to create more art and do things that I love, rather than following trends and assignments only. I have been so stressed in 2018 and I have discovered that the stress doesn’t amount to anything in the end except for headaches and wrinkles around the eyes. 2019 is going to be a year filled with positivity, deep breaths, healthy vegan food and creative adventures. What are your new year resolutions?

Hello 2019

Hello 2019!

It’s been quiet from my end during 2018. A lot of things has passed, some easy, some hard. It has made me stronger for it. I am so happy and excited for 2019 – a year with so many creative and personal plans and goals ahead. I hope to share much of my creativity here with you and hopefully some personal accomplishments as well. This is my 2019 welcoming illustration. I hope you like it 🙂

Inktober postposed

I must admit to failing this years inktober challenge. I did do quite a bit more than I uploaded, but I got a rush job and ended up quitting around the 12th. This is the first year I haven’t completed the task and I feel quite sad that it failed, however I am very grateful that I had so work in the month of October. I wanted to share a few of the designs that I never got around to uploading with you. Here are three of the designs did manage to complete during October. I am not a quitter in any way, so I am going to continue designing until I have 31 designs for the 31 inktober days of 2017. It might take me quite a while to get there in-between all my other projects, but they will be shared here eventually 🙂 I hope you are all having a wonderful november thus far!

Inktober 4th – Hummingbird in flight

Going totally away from the typical inktober feel, here is a design made for Spring/ Summer ’19. I love how the yellows and purples compliment one another and if it was ever printed on a card, accents of gold foil would really make it shine.

Here is a pattern derived from the background of the bird illustration. I like the blues, but it needs an accent of some vibrant summer color. Maybe loosely in the flowers or in an offset effect. What do you guys think?

Thank you for viewing 🙂

Inktober 3rd – Vintage florals

As promised I am staring away from the typical October feel. For my third inktober I wanted to do something more vintage that would work with textiles, rather than gifting. I absolutely love the blue-green in the leaves right now, so you will probably see more like that soon. Opposed to my regular very clean linework, this is much more expressive and I like how it gives the flowers depth. What do you guys think?

I can see the pattern working on wallpapers as well.

Thank you for following my Inktober project. See you tomorrow for a print made for spring of 2018.

INKtober 2

It’s October and I’m really feeling the autumn vibe. I promise it won’t be all fall images – for tomorrow and thursday I have something totally different planned 😉 But for now a pretty pumpkin and a pattern concept to support it. I have always had a soft spot for fall colors, but for the pattern I want to use striking bright colors and black. What do you think?

I am really liking how this pattern turned out. I can’t wait to play around with it in color once I have the time.

Thank you for following my inktober drawing/ pattern project this year!

Have a pumkilisious day 🙂

It’s time for Inktober!

It’s that time a year again and I am so excited for Inktober this year. Last year I did small ink and quill illustrations and colored them with watercolors. I loved them and sold quite a few framed originals. This year however, I am doing something different! Change is good, change promotes learning. I will be doing ink pen sketches, making them into patterns and coloring them digitally. It is a bit ambitious I admit, so I only vow to color one part of the pattern during this month and creating the pattern in black and white for concept purposes. I will then take the best ones and color them in at a later time. Plan made, check. Executing it right now 😀

inktober 1 mushtoom

Last week I went on a forest walk with my mum and did a bit of inspired forest sketching. This is a little cute mushroom from my trip and below are more of my discoveries.

Please feel free to comment and give me some honest feedback!

Thank you for reading this far 🙂 See you tomorrow for Inktober 2!

Tribal zodiac illustrations

Hello everyone!

First update in quite a while! I have been super busy this summer traveling in the U.S. with my mother and partner. I know that’s just an excuse, but I will definitely try to be better at updating more regularly this autumn. These are from a series I have been working on in the spring of 2017. It is the Chinese zodiac signs illustrated in a tribal inspired style. I have hand drawn all of them with traditional pen and ink and then touched them up in adobe illustrator. I am very excited about this series. So far I have completed the rooster, the tiger, the ox and the rabbit.

Thank you for viewing!

Surface Pattern Design

This month I have started the Make it in Design Course – Module 2! It is super exciting, as I am now developing real collections of surface patterns for licensing. This is something that I have been wanting to expand my career into for quite a while and I am very excited to finally get a chance to explore it further!

Here I am sharing my moldboard that I based my sketches and color choices on and below is the collection that I came up with. Let me know what you all think – I would love the feedback 🙂

March Creativity!

March has been a really busy month for me this year. I went to LA for three weeks on vacation, while taking an online design class and finishing up two client projects. March has been so busy that I haven’t had the chance to post much of my work, so I will be playing catch-up a bit in April this year.

Starting with what is most recent. I had the privilege of attending my very first baby cousins baptism this past weekend. She is so sweet and I was very excited to make some personal gift for her  – A pink stroller greeting card and a baby elephant print with her name and birthday on for framing.

I am intending to share a lot more of my work with you in April, but for the time being, you can check out my artist profile on Instagram: @illulinn if you are curious about what I am working on.
